My friend Pete caught this one when he was troubleshooting a co-worker's hard drive. The S.M.A.R.T report in Mac HelpMate alerted him to the impending failure, and he was able to back all of the data on the drive. A great example of how Mac HelpMate and the Smartmontools can work together to give you the head's up before the S.M.A.R.T failure would show up in Disk Utility or SmartReporter.
